Abstract:

To optimize resource allocation (throughput and delay) in multi-hop ad-hoc networks the Carrier Sense Multiple Access with Collision Avoidance(CSMA/CA) performance can be combined with the Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA), preallocating temporal slots in which different sets of nodes are allowed to contend for the channel access, via a map coloring algorithm. Contention based approach and scheduling can be adaptively combined by identifying a threshold in performance that is traffic-aware. We implement a game theoretical approach to allocate some extra slots to equalize resources among nodes and increase the average throughput minimizing the queue length.

Biography:

Laura Giarré was born in Firenze, Italy, July 14, 1960. She received the Laurea degree in Electronic Engineering in 1986 from the Università di Firenze, Itlay and the PhD degree in System Engineering in 1992 from the Università di Bologna, Italy. From 1986 to 1988, she was at the Research Laboratory of the Autostrade SPA as a Research Engineer. From 1988 to 1993, she was with the Università di Firenze, Italy. From 1993 to 1998, she was with the Politecnico di Torino, Italy. In 1998 she joined the Università di Palermo as Associate Professor of Systems Theory. In 1999 and in 2006 she has been visiting professor at the CCEC of the University of California at Santa Barbara. She is co-editor of the book Multidisciplinary Research in Control (Springer Verlag, 2002). She is Associate Editor of Systems and Control Letters. She is Member of the IEEE CSS on Identification and Adaptive sytems and of the IEEE CSS on Systems Biology. She is in the Advisory Board of the Andrea Bocelli Foundation. Her current research interests include system identification and control theory with applications to networked systems.
