Our group working on System Identification offers the following position:
Position: Fixed Term Researcher/Assistant Professor (3 years - RTDa - SSD ING-INF/04 Automatica)
Topic: System Identification - Machine Learning - Optimization
Application deadline: December 5 2013
Starting date: approx. march 2014
Duration 3 years
Salary and benefits: approx. 35KEUR/year + mobility
Notes: funded by the FIRB project ``Learning meets time, a new computational approach for learning in dynamic systems'')
Description: The goal of this project is to achieve fundamental scientific advances in the context of learning dynamical systems. This goal will be pursued through a new synergic and integrative approach that will draw, and merge, concepts and methods from control theory and machine learning. Effective computational frameworks will be developed exploiting in novel ways optimization techniques for processing complex high dimensional data sets. The project's consortium brings together expertise from control/system identification (University of Padova), machine learning (University of Genova) and optimization/numerical analysis (University of Ferrara).
These three Italian teams are also supported by three prestigious international research institutions: MIT, Linkoping University, University of Washington, as well as will collaborate with the Robotics, Brain and Cognitive Sciences Department, Italian Institute of Technology (IIT), Genova.
Profile of the candidate: We are seeing for a candidate with a PhD degree in system identification and control, machine learning, robotics or numerical analysis and a solid background on the topics of the project (mainly system identification and machine learning). Candidates should have gained an international reputation in their field of research and have a good track record in conducting innovative fundamental research.
